Hello parents and guardians. Our Superintendent, Chris Elkington has shared this message below, along with a link to the newly updated Union 76 website, and the two files attached to this page.
We recognize the importance of accountability in the work that we do with our students. As part of that responsibility we are required to share with you specific information about each school within each district as part of our obligations under the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB).
In January, the Maine Department of Education released the 2016-2017 “NCLB Report Cards” for each district’s schools. These documents are now available at each school, the District Office, and on the district’s website at this link: www.sites.google.com/site/union76superintendentsoffice/. These documents include state assessment results for each school, including the percentage of students who met standards, attendance rates, and graduation rates for Deer Isle-Stonington High School. Finally, information on the professional qualifications of teachers in each school is part of the report.
In regards to student academic data you will see that some data is not reported under each school. It is not that this data was not collected, but because of the size of the group of students tested (referred to as cohort size), confidentiality of individual students could be broken if it were reported as a group and so only individual student data is reported to those families.
If you have questions about any of this information, please contact the building principal or me. We would be happy to assist you.
Very truly yours,
Christian M. Elkington Superintendent of Schools
