Reading Update

We are very close to completing our book Out of Nowhere. I shall be sorry to finish it. It has been a great choice for the students.
Coincidentally, there have been items in the local news, which directly relate to this subject of immigrants in our State. Including the withdrawal of request to send immigrants to our State from specific areas of the world and an attack on a person simply because of his origin. These reports brought back to all of us the reality of the subject matter of our book.

We had the privilege of hearing 4 students share their original works just yesterday. There are some outstanding writers on our class. Others have submitted fabulous poems which they will share next week. We are discussing, as a class, how to best showcase this body of work. Some suggestions so far are;  have a poetry reading evening  (much like one we did a few years ago), enter contests, and/or self publish for sale. We may end up doing all!

We continue to participate in NaNoWriMo. My students have written, since November 1, collectively,  approximately 122,000 words! That is truly amazing. Some have very ambitious goals from 5,000 to 50,000 words. However, over this long weekend, I expect some will achieve, if not exceed, those goals. Brilliant!
