Writing Update

This week marked the completion of NaNoWriMo! Students in the middle school wrote a collective 224,154 words! Wow! Many students seemed to really break through and become writers this month. Bravo!
We read the poem "Women" by Alice Walker and had an interesting discussion following the reading. Who is the audience she is writing to? Give the poem a read and see what you think. We also had a lot of in-class writing and conferencing time, which is always a delight.
Writers Group with Ellen Booraem continued, as 6th grade students shared their second scenes. One student found her voice with dialogue this week. It was a phenomenal shift for her! Another student is playing with a Medieval time period and modern language, while another is beginning an adventure tale. Great job, writers!
