NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)
has begun! Students are very motivated to write towards their word-count goals. We spent a great deal of time this week dedicated to writing their stories of choice and conferencing about various topics. Students discussed both the obstacles and benefits of taking on the NaNoWriMo challenge. Overall, it seems to be a good fit for our students.

During our weekly Writers Group with Ellen Booraem, students shared details of the characters they are creating. As a group, they filled out a story map based on the book they read with Ms. Nawrot, A Long Walk to Water. They will now turn the tables and create the story map for the fiction piece they will write this year.

Poetry continues! We read and discussed two poems this week: "Reflection" by Shel Silverstein and "Alone" by Edgar Allen Poe.
