Social Studies update

Congratulations to the 6-7 social studies students for doing a fine job with the Viking News during this busy election season. The students were able to dig into the topics of all the election candidates throughout Maine as well as the ballot questions 1-6. I hope that all parents will take a look at the articles and give their young reporters some feedback. Coming up in our history section of Social Studies, there is an 'inflammatory' event in our near future, but no spoilers. We are moving on from the Library of Alexandria to studying ancient Greek mythology and how the characters still influence our culture today. We are planning on doing a 'Wax Museum' presentation of what we will learn. PenPals are still in progress. All of our students have contacted schools from their respective countries of study , some are already corresponding, others are still trying to make contact.   Photo credit: Wikipedia  Ask your students who Eratosthenes is, you may be surprised to hear what they know.
